ASIS UK Chapter 208 | Chapter Patron – Baroness Angela Harris of Richmond

Spring Seminar

On Wednesday 24th March, we held our first seminar for the year. As with so many events in the past 12 months, this had to be held as an online webinar. While getting together and networking on the fringes of these events is always great, the remote Spring Seminar continued to be well attended. In fact, one benefit of the online method of delivery is that more people could join in than would usually be able to.

Around 115 people joined us and there were numerous favourable messages received in the chat function. Many commenting on the quality of the speakers and the relevance of the presentations delivered; and some from newer members expressing their confirmation that they found the afternoon informative and insightful We were also able to have attendees and presenters joining us from several countries, which enriched the seminar experience.

Following a welcome from our Chapter Chair, Letitia Emeana CPP PSP, which included a moment to thank Russell Penny CPP for his valuable contribution during his tenure as the Chair; three speakers shared their views on a variety of topics.

Alexandra Hoffmann spoke of moving from effective to affective crisis leadership and provided some emotional intelligence tools that help us to do that. This nicely complimented the session delivered by Adrien Frossard which focused on leveraging the power of intelligence. Our final speaker for the afternoon was Carolyn Pearson who had some very interesting and useful advice for keeping business travellers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the transition between speakers we also welcomed four ASIS UK sponsors who briefly explained their products and services. On this occasion we heard from Everbridge, HID, Secure Logiq and Convergint. We hope to hear from our other 2021 sponsors, Axis Communications, Genetec and TrackTik at a future seminar.

This seminar saw the first in a new series of recorded member interviews. This is something we will develop, and we ask interested members to contact the UK Chapter if they would like to share their ASIS journey, and other thoughts, during a short recorded interview. We also held an education session highlighting ASIS certifications CPP, PCI, PSP and APP; as well as the Register of Chartered Security Professionals CSyP.

The Board of Chapter 208 would sincerely like to thank all those that contributed to the organisation of the 2021 Spring Seminar, particularly the host, Richard Brooks, and also to thank all those that joined us online, and actively participated in making the seminar a success. Our Summer Seminar will be held in June and further details will be provided as that draws closer.

“Really really good afternoon. Great speakers and plenty of take aways. Probably the best session yet, thank you for arranging!”

“I’m new to ASIS and so far I’m very impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed the insightful and informative sessions today. Thank you all!”
